This six-hour (one day) FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health – Level 2 course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to:

  • recognise a range of mental health conditions
  • start supportive conversations
  • signpost someone to appropriate professional help
  • recognise and manage stress
  • understand the impact of substance abuse

You will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, how to put one into place, and how to implement a positive workplace mental health culture.

Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) one in four people in the UK will have a mental health problem at some point. Mental health problems are often a reaction to a difficult life event, such as bereavement. However, it can also be caused by work-related issues.

Work can aggravate pre-existing conditions, and problems at work can bring on symptoms or make their effects worse.

Please note that this course will not equip you to diagnose or treat mental health conditions. What you will gain is the understanding of how to identify when someone may have a condition and know where to signpost them to, so they can get help.
